About us
It started with a light switched on
SakuLumi is a small shop of lights for the home. This is the story of how a cherry blossom garland in a small room ended up as this.

The first garland wasn't for sale. It was for a room that looked onto an inner courtyard, the kind the good light never reaches, and that at night was left with a ceiling bulb that turned everything the same color. A cherry branch with flowers that lit up, wound around the headboard, and the room changed that very night. Not much: just enough to make you want to stay.
You'll know what happened next if you've ever put something like it at home: everyone who came in asked where it was from. We bought another for a friend, then two, then we realized we already knew which length looked right on a two-meter wall, which was too short for a headboard, and which of the “warm” lights was truly warm and which leaned towards petrol-station yellow. That small, silly bit of knowledge is the shop.
Saku comes from sakura, the Japanese cherry blossom that lasts two weeks a year and that people go out to the parks to see the way you'd go to a concert. Lumi is light. We liked that together they said what we want to sell: not lamps, but that moment when something lovely lights up and the room becomes another.
Today there's more than the garland — a cloud, a jellyfish, a fox that lights up with a tap, pumpkins and ghosts when October comes — but the rule is still the one from that first night: if we don't feel like leaving it on in our home, we won't put it in yours.
How we do things
Four things you can expect
We light it at home first
Nothing goes into the shop without spending a few nights in one of our homes. If the light is cold, if the cable gets in the way or if it doesn't look like the photo, we don't sell it. As simple as that.
The reviews are from people who bought it
We publish what people who have it at home write, with their photos and their complaints. The rating comes from the maths, not from picking the good ones.
No small print
Free shipping from $18, 14 days to return it with no questions asked and a 3-month warranty — a year with the Duo Pack. The same as the terms say, put here in three lines.
A gift in every order
Every purchase comes with a Sakura keyring, and above a certain amount a fan too. It's not a one-month promotion: it's how we like a box to arrive.
114 people already have it lit up
The Sakura garland is rated 4.7 out of 5 across 114 reviews from people who bought it here. You can read them all, and see their photos, before deciding anything.
